Perceval is most likely right. Vixen you need to clarify things by getting a difinitive photo.

That said, Joanna is a genuine saint (but not as tetramorph as far as I know) interstingly though, she is connected to John the Baptist as it is believed that she was responsible for burying his head (oracular head stuff again) see this link

But this is odd either way as whether Joannes (the Baptist) or Joanna, neither of them is John the tetramorph, the gospel writer.

Hi Yuri/Vyxen,

I hate to spoil a good conspiracy theory but I think the explanation is more mundane. What is carved on the wall is almost certainly just the Latin variants of the four evangelists name – each linked to their corresponding “animal” or tetramorph.

Thus if Vyxen could see the other names I would guess that they would turn out to be along the lines of: Matthaeus/Man, Marcus/Lion, Lucas/Bull and Joannes/Eagle

although this pairing is very common and you should find many examples of it. We’re just not used to seeing the Latin variants of the names but they must have been used up until very recently (1965?) when the mass was still said in Latin.

Right then! I’m going to go back with an enormous lens. You see at first I thought that they must be carrying their own names. I can see scraps of others but not the entire thang.
