Just a very quick one before the festivities overtake me.

Our attempt to revisit the lake at Larchill was thwarted by their Christmas setup which included gnomes in the wood but resulted in the path to the lake being cordoned off.

To make up for this disappointment, I did manage to blag a place in the group to go inside Newgrange this morning to see the solstice sun coming through the roofbox and up the passageway into the main chamber. Of course it wasn’t the exact solstice (only those fortunate enough to win a special lottery get to see that) and anyway the sun was well hidden behind a thick mist but we did get to see daylight creeping into the chamber minute by minute and that was quite magical in itself.

My brother observed that the spot where the sunlight hits the stone at the rearmost recess was a different colour to the rest of the stones. The assembled experts declared it to be a different type of stone but we reckoned that it was exactly the same type but that it was where the door to the Otherworld appeared and the slight change in colour was the result.

I took a few snaps while I was there. The first is inside the chamber looking back out while the second is of the main Tor. When I checked it immediately after taking, I noticed that there were some strange orbs of light in it. I immediately took another to compare and that is the third.
